Shooting has begun on a new political thriller for Netflix titled The Choice.
The five-part series comes from Bridge of Spies writer Matt Charman, as well as leading the show, Jones will also act as one of the series’ executive producers.
Jones plays recently-elected British prime minister Abigail Dalton, who’s struggling to hold office thanks to a healthcare crisis. Julie Delpy stars opposite her as the first-ever female French President, Vivienne Toussaint. Vivienne is campaigning for re-election no matter what, even if it means making controversial policy decisions about France’s borders.
A summit between the two women could be the answer to their prayers, if they can agree. But when Abigail’s husband is kidnapped and Vivienne is blackmailed, the two leaders face unimaginable choices. Forced into a fierce rivalry where their political futures, and lives might hang in the balance, they must try to work together to uncover the plot that threatens them both.
The supporting cast for The Choice includes Corey Mylchreest as Toussaint’s stepson Matheo Lewis, and Lucian Msamati as Dalton’s chief of staff Kofi Adomako. They’ll be joined by Ashley Thomas as Dr Alex Anderson, Dalton’s husband. Musician and actress Jehnny Beth plays Toussaint’s chief of staff Adrienne Pelletier.
Matt Charman commented: “Writing a tense, high-stakes political thriller about the two most powerful women in the world, and then having Suranne Jones and Julie Delpy play them, is a dream come true for me and making it with Netflix and the incredible Anne Mensah… it just doesn’t get any better. I’m so excited to share this with an audience.”
The Choice will be directed BAFTA-nominated director Isabelle Sieb, and will arrive on Netflix in 2025.
