Eve Best (House of the Dragon, Nurse Jackie) and Stockard Channing (The Good Wife, The West Wing) are to join the cast of Suranne Jones’ three-part ITVX drama Maryland. The drama focuses on the relationship between two sisters, dowdy mother of two, Becca (Jones) and disciplined high-flyer Rosaline (Best) who are largely estranged by complex family dynamics.
Becca and Rosaline travel to the Isle of Man to collect the body of their mother, Mary, leaving their father Richard (George Costigan – Gentleman Jack, Happy Valley) at home in Manchester. Whilst there, they find out some shocking information about their mother, that has far reaching consequences for all the family.
Stockard Channing will play Cathy, a spiritual, larger-than-life American who befriends Mary when she’s on the island. Hugh Quarshie (Stephen, Riches), Andrew Knott (Ackley Bridge, Tin Star) and Dean Lennox Kelly (Tom Jones, Jamestown) also star.
ITV Studios-owned Monumental Television (Harlots, Ghosts, Murder in Provence) is producing in association with its parent, while Sue Tully (Strike, Line of Duty, Too Close) directs. Jones is among the executive producers of the drama, which is a co-production with TeamAkers Productions.
ITV’s Polly Hill commented: “It’s hard to believe that Maryland is Anne-Marie’s first original drama commission. It’s a beautiful story developed by Suranne and Anne-Marie, and it has been wonderful working with them and Monumental, to bring this story to screen. It has an incredible cast lead by Suranne and Eve and we are delighted that Sue Tully is directing. It promises to be a wonderful family drama for ITVX.”
Maryland will film on location in Ireland for transmission on ITVX in 2023, before launching on the linear ITV channel at a later date. ITV Studios has secured distribution rights.
